Four Trillion of Your Tax Dollars at Work

The federal government had a net cost of $4.4 trillion in fiscal year 2016.  Have you ever wondered which departments operated by the federal government account for the bulk of this cost?  Below, you will find a chart summarizing the various departments of the federal government which had the greatest cost to taxpayers in FY 2016.        

Net costs are derived from gross costs of $4.5 trillion, less earned program revenues and adjustments for future liabilities.
